I get a little excited when I start to talk about landscape lighting. And by a little excited, I mean a lot. And by when I start talking, I mean all of the time. We all have our special creative skill. Mine just happens to be something that I get to offer homeowners and make a living doing.
I have always enjoyed the experience of meeting someone new and learning a thing or two. What I get to do is take your property, ideas, likes, dislikes & lifestyle and put it into the blender that aids in the creative process. I acknowledge continuously (and apologies if you’ve heard this before…) that I can design an amazing project at your home. But at the end of the day I don’t live there. You do. And that means the design is made for you with your best interests at heart.
Lighting is designed around four principles – safety & security, fear of darkness (it’s a real phobia), function and aesthetics. A client’s priorities for light vary from job to job. It’s my task to flesh out which of these reasons are most-important to you.
Once these boxes are checked, its time to put together a plan. And employ the ‘X-factor’: emotion. Here-in lies what sets me apart. The challenge of creating a unique layout drives me to be the best every time. I am motivated by the craving to design something spectacular.
When the time comes to present the lighting scheme, it’s nearly impossible to contain my level of excitement. I guess it may be one of the things that sets me apart from the average. Through discussions with other lighting designers, it has become apparent that the number one item that brings out the best work is passion. I am proud to be able to offer you something with so much of my own fervor.
The final stage of any lighting project is the reveal. Possibly the greatest experience in the process for me because now my passion becomes yours. With the flick of a switch you will ooh and ahh. And that is the moment you get it and develop your own passion for light.
