The ability to control anything from the palm of your hand has never been more prevalent. Our phones are capable of managing so many tasks. Landscape lighting has a host of options available – let’s take a look at few of our favourite options:
- Insteon offers a solution for those with a weaker wi-fi signal at home. A hub device that is plugged into your router acts as the middle-man, taking its orders from the phone-based app, and relaying the message to your transformers by way of radio frequency (RF) and the use of the alternating phases of your home wiring. These forms of communication are magnified by extender devices. This product can be useful for single transformer control, but even more beneficial on sites with multiple units. The ability to sync the on and off programs alleviates gaps in programming.
- Alliance iT Transformers use Blu-Tooth communication from your phone directly to the transformer. The transformer has a scheduled on and off program, but the app allows for manual control, as well as other system management like a wattage consumption summary. This is particularly useful to see how much room you have left to add more lights!
- Illumicare’s Illumismart app is relatively new, and incredibly exciting! Two device options exist. The first is a wi-fi module that accepts its instructions from the app for programming and on/off operations. The second device is called Merlin. This zoning product allows for up to four separate areas of lighting control. The ideal situation for this is if you have areas that you may not want to light-up on a regular basis – deck, pergola, gazebo, putting green or anything else you can imagine.
